Tiruchy bus terminal to be ready on time

District Collector S Sivarasu, along with senior officials from the City Corporation, on Tuesday reviewed the progress of construction of the bus terminus at Chathiram, estimated to cost Rs 17.34 crore, under Smart Cities Mission Programme.

After inspecting the ongoing construction works, the Collector said, over 90 per cent of the pile foundation work is over. All the work pertaining to the construction of basement will be over before April 2020.


The civic body officials had earlier said that the works would be completed by February 2021.


The new bus terminus has been established in an area of 11,853 square meters (2 acres 93 cents) with as many as 248 pillars. Out of the total 248 pillars, the 218 pillars are over. According to the officials, as many as 350 bi-cycles can be parked on the ground flood apart from 30 buses being operated from the ground floor.


There are 11 shops on the ground floor and 22 in the first floor. Amenities like restrooms, commodity lounges, passenger sidewalks, shops, luggage stores, mothers lactation rooms, electric lighting facilities, restrooms, safe drinking water, restaurants would be constructed, said the civic body officials.
