Condemning the Chief Minister for accusing DMK president  MK Stalin of permitting projects in Delta region, Nehru said the Chief Minister, who lacks the courage to condemn the permission granted to Vedanta and ONGC for hydrocarbon exploration, does not deserve to criticise his leader.  Describing the announcement of the CM as double standards, Nehru, in his first ever message as principal headquarters secretary, said the government should first withdraw the permission granted to Vedanta and ONGC.

“Also, the Chief Minister should immediately order the recall of the letter state Environment Minister KC Karupannan had written to the Centre for doing away with environmental clearance and public consultation for hydrocarbon projects,” Nehru said.

“After doing all this, the CM should give effect to the announcement by passing a legislation in the ensuing Budget session of the Assembly without buckling under BJP’s pressure.
