Addressing a meeting of cadre during a function organised to mark the 20 years of unveiling their party flag at the DMDK headquarters in the city, party treasurer Premalatha Vijayakant said, “Not just in Tamil Nadu, but also in the entire country parties were attempting to divide people on the lines of religion, caste and language. Unlike other political parties and their leaders, DMDK leader Vijayakant is living as a symbol of unity.” DMDK, which is part of AIADMK-BJP alliance, recently courted controversy when Premalatha publicly expressed her dissent over the less number of seats allotted to her party in the recently concluded local body elections.
Premalatha’s remarks on ‘communal politics’ practised by some parties was seen as an indirect attack on the BJP.
She also said that her previous speech on alliance was misinterpreted. “The DMDK always respects the alliance sentiments, but other parties should also respect the same sentiment. We stand by our words,” said Premalatha.
Speaking about the upcoming urban local body elections, Premalatha said that the party cadre should work hard for the victory of the party and the alliance.
She further said that in Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal has become Chief Minister for the third time by following policies of Vijayakant. “Our captain (Vijayakant) promised in 2006 that if DMDK comes to power ration products will be supplied to the houses and Kejriwal came to power with the same promise. It was Tamil Nadu which has missed the development by voting for DMK,” said Premalatha.
In the function, Vijayakant just spoke a few words (Can you hear me) which evoked good response fromthe party cadre.
