Kovai college student dies fighting mobile phone thieves
A 20-year-old college student, who fought three mobile snatchers, has been stabbed to death in the scuffle here.

According to police, D Tamil Selvan from Sulur and studying third year mechanical engineering at a private college in Kalapatti, was returning home after doing his project work in a nearby computer centre on a two-wheeler around 11.45 pm on Saturday, when three persons riding on two motorbikesintercepted him.
“The trio attempted to snatch away his mobile phone. When Tamil Selvan resisted and fought back, the accused stabbed him with a knife on the left side of his chest leaving him severely bleeding,” police said.
The accused persons then sped away in their two-wheelers. The police said that Tamil Selvan, who managed to retain his cell phone, had called up his parents and informed them. Due to profuse bleeding, he then collapsed on the spot.
His father Danushkodi, a construction worker, and other family members, rushed to the spot and took him to a private hospital, but he was declared brought dead.
Meanwhile, the three accused did not stop as they committed another robbery shortly after killingthe youth.
According to the police, K Mahalingam (25) from Vasantham Nagar in Arasur was returning home after work in a private firm in Irugur, when the trio stopped his moped on Thennampalayam-Annur Road under the pretext of asking some address.
Suddenly, they brandished a knife asking his mobile phone. When he refused to give, the accused persons stabbed on his stomach with a knife, before stealing both his mobile phone and two-wheeler.
As the victim collapsed writhing in pain, a man who came by a car took him to a private hospital, where he is treated for injuries. The accused had abandoned the stolen two-wheeler a little distance away.
Six special teams of police have been formed to nab the culprits. The police have retrieved blurred images of the accused caught in a CCTV camera fixed in the neighbourhood. Further investigations are on.
