Cong for system to monitor C-section in pvt hospitals

Participating in the budget session, Vijayadharani said that there is a need for painless labour treatment that results in hassle-free normal delivery for women. “Women who undergo caesarean undergo medical complications and side effects and this trend followed by private hospitals is dangerous,” the MLA said.

The Congress MLA also demanded that the state should incorporate women legislators into committees that can monitor the hospitals that push the patients to go for high-cost surgeries.

Responding to the issue, Health Minister C Vijaya Baskar said that the state was a pioneer when it comes to dealing with maternity cases with least infant mortality and pregnant mortality rate. The number of primary health centres and government hospitals dealing maternity has been increased in all rural areas and due to the constant effort, the state is best in the country in dealing with maternity and neonatal care. The state already has a system to monitor the deliveries and every mortality is audited by the state, the Minister said.

“Further Tamil Nadu is the first state to introduce yoga therapy for pregnant women admitted in government hospitals and the state is focussed on reducing the number of caesarean operations,” Vijaya Baskar said.

During her speech, Vijayadharani also urged the state to consider compensating the 16 policemen who died during the Rajiv Gandhi assassination in Sriperumbudur. “CM Edappadi K Palaniswami gave adequate compensation and a government job for the deceased family of special sub-inspector Wilson. Similar treatment should also be extended to other policemen who died along with the late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi,” she said.

Pointing out that the Centre was not releasing adequate funds to the state, the MLA also demanded a unified political pressure in the form of a resolution from state MLAs demanding the Centre to release adequate funds for cash-starved Tamil Nadu.
