Sources revealed that a stray dog which tried to cross the old Bengaluru road near the Makhan road junction was hit by a car which did not stop.

On seeing the dog’s pitiable, injured condition, Dhandapani of Salvanpet in Vellore, who was passing that way, tried to resuscitate the animal.

Seeing him helping the canine, some locals too joined him and carried the injured animal to the government vet dispensary nearby.

Dr Ravi Sankar, who was on duty, tried to save the dog, but the animal succumbed.

It was then that Dr Sankar realised that the animal was pregnant full term. He then performed an operation on the dead dog and delivered five live pups. He also procured a feeding bottle and milk from a nearby shop and fed the healthy pups with milk to ensure their survival.

The good Samaritan Dhandapani waited till the end of the operation and left taking the five pups with himself promising to care for them in his house.
