The operation was performed by Dr Ravi Sankar, who recently delivered five healthy puppies from the body of dead mother dog, who was killed after a vehicle ran over the pregnant dog, near Makhan on Vellore’s old Bengaluru road.
Revealing this to DT Next, Ravi Sankar said, “The bird of the Sun Consure species (Aratinga Solstitalis) is owned by Altaf (23) of Gandhinagar, a furniture maker with the hobby of raising birds.”
On Friday morning, while Altaf was feeding the birds, this particular bird snatched and swallowed a two-inch plastic tube that was in Altaf’s hand, mistaking it for food. The bird unable to swallow the tube completely became drowsy and Altaf immediately rushed the bird to a vet clinic on the Bengaluru road.
Speaking about the one-hour long surgery, Dr Ravi Sankar said that he browsed the internet and then performed a first of its kind surgery in Vellore and the surgery was successful resulting in the removal of the tube from the bird’s throat. “Both the bird and its owner are now happy,” Ravi Sankar said adding, “I advised Altaf to provide some medicine along with food to ensure that the bird becomes totally normal at the earliest.”
