February 24 is observed as ‘Girl Child Safety Day’ in the state as declared by Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami. Each house site patta is worth Rs 50,000. The transgender persons were all praise for the Collector and the Chief Minister after all their attempts to avail of the facility proved fruitful at the end.
One of the jubilant beneficiaries, Arthi, said it was a dream come true for this community, who often felt marginalised in the society. Earlier, demands were placed before the Collector by the transgender persons of Thoothukudi several times through petitions after staging demonstrations.
Considering the legitimate concerns of the transgender persons, the Collector helped this community by offering pattas. Now, this community stands a chance to settle down permanently at Perurani in Thoothukudi. Further, the community is also relying much on the Collector for creating housing facility for them to ensure secured life at the allocated site under ‘Thanga Manasu Thittam’, the beneficiary said.
