According to the police, Jagadeesh (30) from Karnataka had stopped the van at Attibele toll plaza near Hosur and produced his FASTag to the staff for payment.

However, due to some technical snag, the machine failed and woman staff at the counter asked Jagadeesh to pay in cash. The driver broke into a quarrel over the issue. It is learnt that a lady staff had first slapped him and he too retaliated by slapping her in turn.

A group of other staff on duty came rushing and attacked both the driver and the cleaner. The duo was also dragged into a room and reportedly assaulted with iron rods. The severely injured have been left hospitalised.

Based on a complaint, the Attibele police registered a case and arrested six staff members at the toll plaza after CCTV footage showed them being involved in the assault.
