School Edu Minister denies any malpractice in TET
After complaints about malpractices, while conducting Teacher’s Eligibility Test (TET), Tamil Nadu School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan on Thursday refuted the allegations and said that all the exams were conducted in a fair manner and no wrongdoings were reported so far.

“All the complaints were checked thoroughly by our School Education authorities and it was found that not even single incidence of malpractices occurred in the exams,” he said on the side-lines of a function here.
To a question on the teachers’ move to approach the court on the malpractices allegations in TET, Sengottaiyan replied that the government was also ready to face it. “We will also submit our document,” he added.
Meanwhile, members of TET Qualified Candidates Welfare Association (TQCWA) questioned the appointments of more than 600 teachers, who completed TET, in Salem district alone. They also alleged that especially in Geography subject most of the candidates, who also appeared for TET in 2013 in Theni district, stood in the first 100 rank list.
Alleging that many changes were made in the shortlisted candidate’s data, the TQCWA members said CBI inquiry should be conducted so that malpractices in TET exams will come to light.
Earlier, Sengottaiyan said preparations for the board exams for Classes 10,11 and 12 was over and the exams and the results will be as per the schedule.
He said more than 9.4 lakh Class 10 students across the State will be appearing for board exams and likewise, about 8.26 lakh students from Class 11 will be appearing for annual exams this year. The Minister said a total of 8.16 students from Class 12 will be writing the board exams.
Sengottaiyan said that private organizations have contributed more than Rs 127 crore to improve the infrastructure of the government and government-aided schools in the State.
School hit by flood gets new buildings
A higher secondary school, which was badly hit during the 2015 floods and rebuilt from scratch by the Rotary Club of Madras, was on Thursday handed over to the School Education Department at Perumbakkam on the city outskirts.
The school built in a 1.2 acre of land, the school spread over 29,800 sqft area, has 17 classrooms and six laboratories and could accommodate 660 students. Tata companies and their employees, through the Tata Tamil Nadu Floods Response Programme, were the major donors. Anuja Foundation USA and Rotarians contributed the balance amount towards this Rs 7 crore project.
School Education Minister KA Sengottaiyan, who inaugurated the re-built school, said Tamil Nadu has always enjoyed the support of the corporate world and the Rotary in creating excellent infrastructure in the form of schools, hospitals and more, and rising to help when the situation warranted for the community at large.
He thanked the Rotary Club of Madras and the Tata group in particular for this noble gesture and assured that the school will run in an efficient manner to mould the children who will contribute positively to the society in the future.
