Student sends nude pic on Insta, blackmailed for Rs 60K

Police said the caller also threatened to share the video on social media if he failed to pay. The victim ended up paying Rs 59,000 through digital wallet within hours on Thursday. He also lodged a complaint with the city police later.

The 20-year-old, a final year student of mechanical engineering at a college on OMR and a resident of Ayanavaram,received a message on Instagram on Thursday around 7.30 pm from one ‘Riyaa’ seeking a video of his nudity but alsoshowing his face.

Thinking that the message was from a woman, the youth obliged and sent ‘Riyaa’ his nude video. Within no time he received messages from three unknown numbers saying that they had collected all his contacts and they threatened to send his video to all his contacts besides uploading the same on YouTube if he failed to pay Rs 60,000.

The shocked youth almost immediately transferred Rs 59,000 throughPhone Pay to the blackmailer in five instalments between 8.24 pm and 11.57 pmon Thursday.

After midnight, he approached the Ayanavaram police station with the complaint. Further investigation is on and police are trying to ascertain if there is a racketbehind it.
