Develop culture of innovation, VP’s formula to resolve issues

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said a number of problems faced by India needed creative, innovative, out-of-box solutions, that calls for developing a culture of constant innovation.

Addressing the students of IIT-Madras here, he said the need for continuous innovation was very well reflected in government’s constant efforts to create an innovation-friendly atmosphere in the country through programs like the Atal Innovation Mission.


Stating that there was a need to develop a culture of constant innovation in the country, Naidu, quoting former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam said “excellence is a continuous process and not an accident”.‘’Mediocrity is no longer an option here. The fundamental duties, which I believe is one of the most important components of our Constitution, requires citizens to strive towards excellence in all spheres of individual and collective activity so that the nation constantly rises to higher levels of endeavor and achievement,’’ he added.


Naidu also said the pursuit of excellence requires discipline, commitment, equanimity, focus, courage and constant self-evaluation and course-correction.


‘’I believe that pursuit of excellence and utmost dedication and devotion to one’s duties and responsibilities is highest form of patriotism,’’ he said adding, ‘’being students of IIT-M, which has a reputation for excellence, each one of you must make it your goal to achieve excellence in whatever you do and promote excellence in workplace.’’ Naidu said disruptive but affordable solutions using Artificial Intelligence for agriculture and healthcare, drones to coordinate disaster management and relief work, water conservation and recycling technology were needed and must emerge from varsities like IIT.
