Condemning the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) there are continuous protests in the state and one of the key demands of the protesters is to pass a resolution against CAA and NPR in the Assembly.

Though the state government has been reiterating that minorities will not be affected due to CAA and NPR the protests are still continuing and to cool down the protests Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami recently announced that state government is planning to pass a resolution against NPR in the Assembly.

As the Assembly session on demand for grants is schedule to commence in a week the Ministers have gone to Delhi to discuss about the issue and it is likely that the state government might pass a resolution against NPR in the upcoming Assembly session.

When asked about the meeting of Islamic leaders with Rajinikanth, Jayakumar replied that Chief Minister has met Islamic leaders thrice after the protests against CAA commenced and assurance have been given to them that no minorities would be affected in the state.

The protesters should understand that AIADMK is committed to the welfare of the minorities and should stop their protests, said Jayakumar.

Muralidhar Rao calls on Chief Minister

Later in the day, BJP National General Secretary Muralidhar Rao met Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami at his residence and discussed about the ongoing protests against CAA and NPR in the state.

According to sources, “Chief Minister has urged Muralidhar Rao to insist upon the Centre not to make changes in NPR and to follow the same procedure as in 2020 census.”
