Havildar shoots himself to death near Poovanthi
The personnel in the rank of Havildar camped in Indo-Tibetan Border Police Force allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself inside the ITBP camp located at Iluppakudi under the limits of Poovanthi police on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as P Sankar (38), a native of Uttarkhand, deputed as Guard Command in arsenal in the camp. He is survived by his wife and two sons. The incident occurred at 3.10 pm, when the havildar shot himself by firing several rounds on his head and neck using a ‘INSAS’ weapon. According to the sources, the victim was mentally disturbed over the last one week due to work and family dispute. However, no suicide note was recovered from the spot and the exact reason for the suicide is yet to be ascertained.
Further, sources said that he enlisted on October 15, 2001 and reported in this ITBP camp on September 29, 2016. Manamadurai Deputy Superintendent of Police G Karthikeyan and Poovanthi Inspector of Police Umadevi inspected the spot and held inquiries. The bullet-ridden body was taken to Madurai Government Rajaji Hospital for post-mortem. Poovanthi police have filed a case and the Investigation is underway.
