Subramanian new Pondy Cong chief 

Former Assembly Speaker AV Subramanian has been appointed as the new President of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

AICC interim president Sonia Gandhi has appointed Subramanian as the president of the Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee with immediate effect.

The party appreciates the contribution of outgoing president A Namassivayam, according to a release issued by AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday.Subramanian belongs to the fishermen community from Karaikal region and was the Speaker from 2000-2001. He was also the Education Minister for six months in 2001.

He represented Karaikal (South) in the Assembly from 1991-96 and 1996-2001. Subramanian also served as the president of PCC for almost six years from 2010.Namassivayam, who is the second in command in V Narayanasamy Ministry holding portfolios of PWD and Local Administration, was appointed as the PCC president a few months before the last Assembly elections in 2016.
