The ancient Shenbagavalli Ambal Sameda Kakleshwarar temple is located at Bhavagathapuram near Veppathur in Thiruvidaimarudhur, Thanjavur. On Wednesday evening, two unidentified persons visited the spot and conducted a search with an equipment they had brought. The temple priests, who noticed the suspicious movements of the duo, passed on the information to the Kumbakonam police.

By the time, the duo had reportedly started digging the land on the temple premises. As soon as the police arrived, they secured the duo and took them to the police station.

On further questioning, the police identified them as A Ingulab (36) and Peer Mohammed (65), both from Cholapuram. The duo had confessed to the police that they scanned the landscape to find out whether there was any gold treasure and attempted to dig the land if there was any treasure.

Subsequently, the police seized the latest detector, spade and other digging tools.

After a detailed interrogation, the police found that the duo had gathered a series of information through the social media which stated that there used to be gold treasure on the temple premises. Based on the information via social media, the duo had purchased the equipment from Hyderabad and started their works. Further investigations are on.
