As news spread after Opposition leader and former Education Minister Thangam Thennarasu tweeted the latest circular, School Education officials immediately clarified that there was an error in the notification and that a revised one would be sent out shortly.

When contacted, a senior School Education Department official told DT Next that the circular was “wrongly printed” and sent. Stating that the circular was for private candidates, who sit for Class 8 exams for job purposes, he claimed a new re-joinder circular will be issued.

The board exams for Class 5 and 8 were cancelled after the State cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and subsequently, Education Minister K A Sengottaiyan had issued an official release about the government’s decision. In addition, a detailed government order on scrapping the proposal to conduct board exams was issued and was also notified in the State Gazette recently. However, the fresh circular, which perplexed both the parents and teachers, further asked District Education Officers for details of exam centres.
