All Tasmac shops to get PoS devices with options

In the wake of a sizeable increase in online sales over the days, the Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (Tasmac) has decided to hire Point of Sale (PoS) machines for all its outlets and also introduce multiple payment options for the customer.

The Tasmac initiative to rope in private partners comes in the backdrop of online sales to the tune of nearly Rs 50 crore being recorded per month as against Rs 10 crore sales a couple of months ago.

At present, most restaurants and hotels in the State use only hired PoS machines for online transactions.

A senior official from Tasmac told DT Next that malfunctioning of devices were often reported in those liquor outlets that had them, making cashless options hard to avail. "Moreover, in rural areas, due to poor network connectivity, many swiping machines do not work and therefore, the online transactions could not be carried out,” the official added.

Stating that at present there are about 5,300 retail liquor vending shops across the State, the official said all these shops will now have hired PoS machines with an array of customer friendly options.

According to the official, the point of sale machines will have features like the acceptance of debit cards powered by RuPay, and payment options through Unified Payment Interface (UPI) (BHIM-UPI) and UPI Quick Response Code (UPI QR code).

"It (PoS machine) will also facilitate the acceptance of payment through other debit cards (other than RuPay) and credit cards over sale of liquor in retail vending shops located across Tamil Nadu," the official further said.

Explaining the advantages of hiring PoS machines in liquor shops, the Tasmac official pointed that if there was to be any fault reported in the online payment device, the concerned company, which manages the PoS machines, would replace it with immediate effect.

"In addition, the company will be having its technical representative in all the districts so that the maintenance of PoS machines in the liquor outlets will be easy," the official said. The representatives will also train the Tasmac outlet salespersons on how to effectively use the device, the official added.
