The session will continue till April 9 as per the decision taken at the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting chaired by Speaker P Dhanapal at his chamber at the Secretariat on Monday last.
During the session the AIADMK government would be coming out with various announcements by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami Under Rule 110 in the Assembly, as the elections to Urban Local bodies was likely to be held next month.
The session was expected to generate more heat as the Opposition led by the DMK would be raising a host of issues, including by renewing its demand seeking an assurance from the Government that NRC and NPR would not be implemented in the wake of anti-CAA protests across the state.
With the Chief Minister having already hinted that a resolution on not to implement NRC in the state was under the consideration of the Government, the opposition parties were expected to put pressure on the AIADMK regime in this regard.
On resumption, the day’s proceedings would be adjourned after adopting obituary references in respect of two Opposition DMK MLAs KPP Samy (Tiruvottriyur) and Kathavarayan (Gudiyatham-R), who passed away last week and senior DMK leader and former Minister K Anbazhagan who died on Saturday.
After a holiday on March 10, the House will take up the demand for grants for various departments from March 11 till April 9, when the Bills introduced in the House would be passed after which it would be adjourned sine die by the Speaker.
The impact of the Coronavirus, which has affected several states, would also be raised by the Opposition and the government expected to list out the steps taken to counter it, especially after a person from Kancheepuram, who has a history of travelling to Muscat in Oman, was tested positive for SARS-COV-2 and has been isolated at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital.
