Minister for Cooperatives Sellur Raju, who conducted a review meeting with the department officials on the cooperative loan assistance schemes, warned that those who misuse the funds of cooperative societies will be booked under criminal charges and barred from contesting in the cooperative society polls.

Action will be taken against those who misuse cooperative funds and there was a recent amendment in the Assembly under which those with criminal and corruption charges cannot contest in the upcoming cooperative polls, the Minister informed.

The committee members of the cooperatives will now have accountability and the AIADMK government is keen on punishing the errant cooperatives members. Former chief minister J Jayalalithaa and AIADMK founder MG Ramachandran had taken tough stands against those who swindle public money, the AIADMK government is continuing the stand unlike the DMK which allowed those with corruption charges to contest, the Minister alleged.

Commenting on DMK MLA Saravanan wearing a mask in view of Corona threat, Raju said that the opposition MLA was trying to create an unnecessary panic among the public.
