The employees of the transport corporations staged protest in various parts of the state, including Cuddalore and Tirupur on Tuesday protesting against the management for not initiating talks with the unions even six months after the previous wage agreement lapsed.

“The Tamil Nadu government transport corporation workers wage agreement has lapsed six months ago. Despite the memorandum submitted to the transport corporation management and the government, no talks had been held yet. The Federation of the Transport Corporation Unions has urged several times to initiate talks, but the government failed to do anything,” CITU state president A Soundararajan said.

He noted that even the previous wage agreements were reached only after the continuous protest by the trade unions.

“The workers affiliated to the Federation of the Transport Corporations have started the dharna until the government starts the wage agreement. We demand the Chief Minister to invite the protesting trade unions to hold talks,” he said.

An official release said that once in three-year wage agreement would be reached by the transport corporation and its workers.

“A government order has been issued to set up a committee of the management to take part in the 14th wage agreement,” the release said, adding that the first round of the 14th wage agreement talk would be held between the management and the trade unions on March 20 at the MTC training centre at Chrompet in Chennai.
