Southern Railway adopts preventive measures at stations
In a bid to prevent any outbreak of coronavirus, the Southern Railway has taken adequate precautionary measures.

As per the directive of VR Lenin, Divisional Railway Manager of Madurai and Bhaskar, Chief Medical Superintendent, an isolation ward was set up at Madurai divisional area for handling suspected coronavirus cases.
According to a statement on Wednesday, a total of 24 beds have been put up at railway training institute in Arasaradi, 13 beds at railway basic training centre in Tiruparankundram, 22 beds at RPF barracks at Dindigul 26 beds at Tirunelveli, 25 beds at multi-disciplinary divisional training institute in Virudhunagar and 16 beds at Madurai divisional health unit.
To create awareness among passengers and employees about the measures to prevent COVID-19, announcements were made through public address systems at frequent intervals at all the important railway stations. Besides, Information Education and Communication (IEC) activities were also displayed at important locations in all major stations in the division in the vernacular language to spread awareness on COVID-19. “Machinery has been put in place for monitoring any suspected case at railway stations under this division. Railway medical in-charges are in constant touch with state and district authorities to obtain guidelines on the subject and take necessary detective, preventive and curative measures suggested by them’, the statement said.
“On cleanliness frequency maintained in trains and at stations, disinfectant is used to wipe down handrails, doorknobs, handles and restrooms on hourly basis and frequency rate could go up. Additional anti-bacterial products, including sanitizers and wipes would be provided at stations, on trains and also at employee workplaces,” added statement.
