AIADMK surprises with anti-BJP stand on Delhi violence
The AIADMK, a BJP ally, on Thursday lashed out at the Modi government in the Rajya Sabha over the recent violence in Delhi, saying the moral responsibility for the riots rests with the Centre and the Union Home Ministry, which is completely responsible for the law and order in the capital.

Participating in the debate on Delhi violence, party MP SR Balasubramoniam demanded a judicial inquiry into the violence and registration of FIRs without bias against those involved in the riots.
Asking the government to reach out to the minorities, he said the major minority in the country was scared of the Citizenship Amendment Act and the NRC. Mosques were destroyed and saffron flags were hoisted on them, he said.
“I condemn the riots. It is the moral responsibility of the Government of India to maintain law and order in Delhi. The Prime Minister’s slogan of sabka saath, sabka vishwas, has taken a beating. The image of the Home Minister has taken a beating,” Balasubramoniam said.
He said the Delhi police remained a mute spectator when the riots took place. One politician, an apparent reference to BJP leader Kapil Mishra, gave an ultimatum to the Delhi police to clear the roads of anti-CAA protesters after which the violence started, he said.
India, the AIADMK MP said, was facing a trinity of social disharmony, economic slowdown and the impact of the corona virus.
“I feel fully embarrassed by what happened in the country when the US President was in the country,” he said.
DMK member Tiruchi Siva also demanded an independent judicial inquiry into the violence. He criticised Home Minister Amit Shah of “silence” when there was a need to speak out at the time of violence. He did not express a word of regret over the killings, he said.
