According to the district administration, the taluks including Thirumanur, T-Pazhur and Jayankondam in the Cauvery Delta region are on full swing harvesting the samba crops. Owing to this, the district administration had already started 21 DPCs in the district.
Meanwhile, the farmers of Ariyalur taluk who commenced the harvest were forced to transport the yield to the DPCs in the adjacent areas as Ariyalur taluk failed to have a DPC of its own. When the farmers took the yield to the DPCs of other areas, they reportedly gave priority to the local farmers. Thereby forcing the ryots of Ariyalur taluk to stock the paddy along the road side and wait for DPCs to procure their harvest.
As the stocking of paddy created a series of inconvenience to the Ariyalur farmers, they demanded the authorities to open a DPC in theirlocality. They also raised their demand for a separateDPC in the farmers’ grievances meet and also approached the District CollectorD Rathna to open DPCs for the benefit of Ariyalur taluk farmers.
Based on the demand, the District Collector instructed the officials to start two new DPCs in the locality. As per the instruction, the officials have decided to open DPCs at V-Viragalur and South Thelur villages. The DPCs would be functional from Monday, stated the official communication from the district collectorate.
