Noor Muhammed (30), an auto driver from Gandhi Nagar in Saramedu, near Karumbukadai, and Azaruddin from Madukarai were arrested for attacking Hindu Munnani district secretary Anand while he was returning home after participating in a pro-CAA demonstration.
A police team swooped down on his house to carry out the search for about one-and-a-half-hour from 7 am and seized three cell phones. The police, however, remained tight-lipped over the reason for the search.
The search comes in the wake of intelligence inputs that a group of terrorists may infiltrate into Coimbatore from Kerala to attack leaders of religious outfits.
Checks were intensified in all the 14 Tamil Nadu-Kerala border check-posts and more than 2000 cops have been deployed to maintain strict vigil. Following communal tension, the police have detained more than 300 persons as a preventive action.
With heightened security, the police teams carrying out vehicle check at Nanjundapuram Road check-post, nabbed a six-member armed gang on Monday.
The gang members, identified as Palanikumar (40), Suresh Kumar (28), Veera Subash (30), Manobala (27), Manikandan (27) and Karthik (35), all hailing from different areas in Madurai, were in possession of sickles, knives and other weapons in their car.
They were facing several cases of murders ad attempt to murder in Madurai and investigations are on to know if they arrived in Coimbatore to execute some anti-social activity. The members of the gang were produced in court and lodged in Coimbatore Central Prison.
