Karur BDO arrested on graft charge dies of cardiac arrest
The Block Development Officer (BDO) in Karur who was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from a realtor from Tiruppur on Wednesday evening, suffered a cardiac arrest and died in the wee hours of Thursday.

Based on a complaint from a relator, DVAC sleuths rushed to K-Paramathi and caught Jayanthi Rani red-handed while she was accepting the bribe. Subsequently, the DVAC officials searched her house at Thonthodrimalai. The DVAC then took her to residence of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Malarvizhi in Karur at around 10.45 pm on Wednesday.
Once they reached the residence of the judge, Jayanthi had reportedly told the officials of breathing complications and soon fainted. Subsequently, she was rushed to the Karur GH where she succumbed at 3 am on Thursday. The relatives of Jayanthi Rani said that she had earlier reported about her physical condition to the DVAC slueths who failed to take notice and took her to the judge’s residence. Meanwhile, Karur Town police registered a case and are investigating.
On Thursday, Ramesh (37), a realtor, registered a complaint to DVAC as Jayanthi Rani demanded Rs 45,000 for providing DTCP approval for his land.
