It all started when health services joint director I Yasmin and a team of officials visited the college to check whether a coronavirus monitoring cell could be set up there. Soon, a huge crowd gathered in front of the college following rumours that the government was going to set up a coronavirus ward in the college.

Fearing that setting up the ward would put them at risk of catching the infection, the residents grew angry and told officials that such a ward should be set up either at the government Pentland taluk hospital or at any of the private hospitals in the town.

They also blocked the Tiruvannamalai road at midnight in press their demand. The agitation was finally given up after the officials convinced them that it was only a monitoring cell and not a ward. Later, the Bagayam police registered a case against 10 persons for spreading the rumour.
