Vellore forms 30 special squads to monitor district borders
Under the orders of Vellore Collector K Shanmuga Sundaram, 30 special squads with 15 members each were formed in the district to screen the public at borders on Thursday.

Each team would have three members from the police, two from the Health Department, four from the Revenue Department and six from local bodies, the Collector said.
The teams would function in shifts round the clock. While one squad would be on duty at the district level control room at Collector’s office, the others would take control of the border check posts located at Serkadu, Christianpet, Ponnai, Badrapalli, Paradarami, Sainagunda, Sripuram Golden Temple, Katpadi railway station and Chittoor bus stop, he added.
Meanwhile, Ranipet Collector S Divyadarshini opened a handwashing facility at the Muthkadai bus terminus and distributed pamphlets to created awareness, while her counterpart in Tirupattur, MP Sivan Arul, undertook a similar exercise at the Vaniyambadi toll plaza.
District SP Vijayakumar was also present when officials thermally imaged passengers in cars crossing the plaza on Thursday.
