TN may postpone SSLC exams, find new dates for Classes 11, 12 boards
With CBSE exams being postponed across the country, the State government is also mulling rescheduling of the ongoing board exams, especially for Classes 11 and 12 in view of coronavirus threat.

The Directorate of Examinations is also considering postponing Class 10 board exams, scheduled from March 27 to April 13, for the safety of the students.
Similarly, teachers, who were asked to come to school compulsorily despite declaring of holiday for the students, may get the option to perform school-related work from home.
A senior official from the School Education Department told DT Next that a crucial meeting, comprising minister and high-level authorities were discussing not only postponing of Class 10 board exams but also rescheduling of the ongoing annual exams for Classes 11 & 12.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. In view of the corona threat, the School Education Department would take a decision very soon as to whether to conduct board exams or not,” he said.
The official said if the threat situation dilutes this week, the Class 10 exams will be conducted as per the schedule.
Tamil Nadu Teachers’ Association president PK Ilamaran said the board exams, especially for Class-10, should be postponed to June 2020. “Since the coronavirus threat is a serious concern, the government should consider the safety of more than nine lakh students and postpone the annual exams,” he said. “Though sanitisation is being carried out at the exam centres, it’s better that students stay safe at home,” he said.
Decision on ‘all pass’ for Classes 1-9 soon
Discussions are on to declare students of Class 1 to Class 9 as ‘all pass’ as was done by the UP government in the State, said a senior official with the School Education Department. Stating
the matter is being discussed based on the request from teachers and academicians, the official said a decision in this regard will be taken soon.
