PM calls Stalin, asks about family health, AIADMK upset

A short statement released by the DMK high command said the Prime Minister spoke to Stalin over phone on Sunday morning and enquired about the health of his mother Dayalu Ammal and other family members.

Stalin, who reciprocated the PM’s gesture, was stated to have confirmed the invitation his party has received for the April 8 all-party meet from the Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs to discuss the corona situation.

Stalin has informed the Prime Minister that his Parliamentary Party leader TR Baalu would make  constructive suggestions in the meeting to improve the health situation of the country.

Stalin, the statement said, also asked the PM to be a shield protecting the life of people. It further quoted the PM as saying that the Centre was very attentive on the issue. Union Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Stalin later in the day.

Meanwhile, the DMK is celebrating the PM’s call for an all-party meeting to discuss the corona virus threat.

The party believes the PM’s call has vindicated its stand and put the ruling AIADMK in a spot. The BJP’s move has also given fodder to the DMK to lash out at AIADMK. Understandably, they did not hold back in calling out Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami for calling DMK president MK Stalin’s call for an all-party meeting unnecessary.

DMK legal wing joint secretary I Paranthaman says, “It has confirmed that AIADMK and the BJP are not separate entities and the CM does not make even a small move without consulting the BJP. Even Jayalalithaa, in whose name they claim to rule, had held all-party meets during tsunami.” 

“Our leader Karunanidhi has done it as well. Either Palaniswami’s attempt to project himself as a bigger leader than Jayalaithaa has backfired or he must have waited for his political bosses in New Delhi to convene the meeting. It has proved that the AIADMK regime does not do anything on its own. Our leader Stalin was the first to propose videocon meeting. EPS ego did not permit him to oblige. Now, the PM has called for a meeting. What will he do now?” argued Paranthaman, before accusing the AIADMK regime of blindly following the protocol without adopting to the ground reality in the state.
