COVID suspect from Ariyalur ends life in isolation ward, tests negative

Police said on Saturday that P Narayanan (60), a resident of Arakkatalai village in Ariyalur district was working as a daily wager in Kerala and returned to his native place on March 23.

A daily wage worker admitted to the isolation ward of Ariyalur government hospital allegedly committed suicide by hanging late on Friday evening.

Police said on Saturday that P Narayanan (60), a resident of Arakkatalai village in Ariyalur district was working as a daily wager in Kerala and returned to his native place on March 23.

He got himself admitted to the government hospital after experiencing cold and fever on April 6.

He was quarantined in a separate room in the isolation ward and his blood samples were sent to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital at Tiruchirappalli for analysis.

The hospital staff found Narayanan hanging from the room window grill using his towel.

Minutes after he committed suicide, his test results for Coronavirus got negative . It was not known whether he committed suicide out of COVID-19 fear or family dispute.

Investigation is underway, police said.
