After the Tasmac outlets were closed owing to the implementation of Section 144, the tipplers from the region were found to buy IMFL bottles hoarded by a few persons at an exorbitant price, while a few started brewing arrack in their localities.
On Friday night, the Jeeyapuram police received information that some local people were brewing arrack at many interior places. Based on the tip-off, a team of police, led by Jeeyapuram DSP Gokila, made a search operation in the late hours on Friday. Subsequently, the team, early on Saturday, found a unit at Kothamangalam village near Ramjinagar.
Soon, the police zeroed in on the unit, but the persons involved in the brewing escaped into darkness. Subsequently, the team seized the arrack brewed and stocked in three barrels.
The police have registered a case and are searching for the gang involved in the brewing.
