Tiruchy Collector’s appeal for blood donation evokes good response

In order to ensure adequate stock of blood for emergency use in the blood banks during the lockdown, Tiruchy Collector S Sivarasu appealed to the public to donate blood. On Monday, as many as 286 turned on for the special camp making it a hit.

Collector Sivarasu asked the people to donate blood for emergency use of in-patients, pregnant women and other patients with various diseases and started a campaign through WhatsApp numbers 94431-82847 and 9965519761 and asked those interested to respond as ‘want to donate.’

More than 500 persons expressed their willingness and they were asked to come to National College campus on Monday.

The volunteers who were willing to donate blood converged on the campus were screened for COVID-19 initially prior to donating blood. Subsequently, they were asked to sit by ensuring social distance.

Since it was a one-day camp, only 286 could donate blood as it closed at 4 pm. 

Collector Sivarasu inaugurated the camp and asked the officials to strictly adhere to the norms. The Collector who expressed happiness over the response for blood donation appeal, told the remaining volunteers to wait for another camp which would be scheduled soon.

Later, the volunteers were provided donation certificates.

District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU) Programme Manager Dr S Manivanan, Tiruchy Blood Bank Medical Officer Dr C Bhuvaneshwari and others participated.
