A note from the State police headquarters said those retired from CRPF and aged between 40 and 50 can approach district police chiefs to be part of the teams fighting the pandemic.

Sources said there was also a request from the association of ex-CRPF personnel saying they would like to work during the lockdown. It was decided to consider their request and accordingly applications are being called for, sources said, adding it would be temporary.

Already, Home Guards are working with the police in COVID related duties. At a time when the police force is struggling for manpower, any addition in strength would be an added advantage. In some police districts, personnel above 55 are not being deployed for COVID work. Some stations are closed after the personnel working there were tested positive. So, any addition of strength would be a blessing for those managing the manpower in the department, officials said.

The TN police had already asked more than 8,500 fresh constable recruits to assemble at various training facilities by Sunday, with the department planning to deploy them soon for bandobust duty.
