As per the original schedule, Class 10 board exams were to be held from March 27 to April 13. A senior official from the Directorate of School Education told DT Next on Saturday that authorities and academicians have suggested the government that it should grant time to allay fears of students and also to prepare for the examination.

“As the School Education Department had already decided to constitute an expert committee to come out with fresh dates of the reopening of schools, a separate panel, comprising officials of the School Education Department, authorities from Health and Family Welfare Wing and academicians will also conduct a detailed study on the pandemic situation across the State even after the lockdown period before deciding on board exam dates,” he added.

The official said to begin with the panel would seek information from all the district education officers about the virus threat in their respective regions. “After this, the panel will decide on exam dates only after all districts get the safe zone tag “, he said and added that it would be applicable even for remaining exams for Class XI.

The official also pointed out that the exam centres would not be located anywhere nearby containment spots. “The expert panel will also consult representatives of teachers’ associations and school management fora before arriving at a decision on exams and submit all the reports to the government for a final decision”.
