A division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice Pushpa Sathyanrayana, before whom a plea came up related to the transport of those who attended the Conference of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi, said: “We direct the Respondent State to file a Status report about the steps taken for bringing back the stranded people in various parts of the country, particularly in Delhi, the cause of which is espoused by the petitioner and it appears they belong to a particular community and had attended the Conference of Tablighi Jamaat in Delhi.”

In response to the submission made by Ajmal Khan, senior counsel, that they have already filed their representation along with a list of people to travel from Delhi to Chennai, the bench sought the government to report about the steps taken for processing the applications.

The senior counsel submitted that the persons stranded in Delhi have been tested negative for the virus and have completed their quarantine period. They have also undertaken to bear the transportation cost from Delhi to Chennai. Government pleader V Jayaprakash Narayanan informed the court that all applications of people stranded in different parts of the country are being processed by a Nodal Officer Mangat Ram Sharma and his team. The plea has been posted for further hearing to May 12.
