Digicop app to guide you to nearest Amma Canteen

With the lockdown being relaxed in a phased manner, there is a confusion among the public as well as shopkeepers as to what are the activities permitted and what not. To clear such doubts, Greater Chennai Police has upgraded its Digicop mobile phone application with additional features.

While the application already has features to lodge a complaint online, verify if a particular mobile phone is stolen with its IMEI number and whether a lost phone or two-wheeler has been retrieved, what is added is COVID-related features, included under sub-section called Citizen Services.

Users can choose to read the information in Tamil or English. While the home page educates people on social distancing, the importance of wearing mask and self-quarantine, the next page has the City Police Commissioner’s message to the public, lockdown rules and what all activities are permitted and not permitted till May 17 in the third phase of the lockdown. An icon displaying ‘passes’ will take you to the TNEA page where you can apply for e-passes for travel. The app also guides you to the nearest Amma Canteen and give directions for the same. Audio will also play in the background while the information is being displayed.

A official told DT Next that more features are being planned for the app. One such will be info on the nearest health centres once you enter the pin code of your address.
