In a statement, the Minister said that the Chief Minister would not allow any move that would impact the public and farmers.

Noting that the Center has released the draft Electricity Amendment Bill, 2020, on April 17 seeking comments from the state and other stakeholders, he said that the AIADMK government has decided to urge the Centre to drop the provisions in the draft amendment bill that would affect the public. He recalled that the latest draft also contains the proposals like payment of subsidy to the domestic and agricultural consumers directly into the account and appointment of the chairperson and members of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission through a committee appointed by the Centre. “The new draft bill proposes allowing of sub- distribution licensee or franchisee for power distribution and setting up of an electricity contract enforcement authority to hear the dispute between an electricity generator and licensee which was earlier under the jurisdiction of the State Electricity Regulatory Commission,” he pointed out.
