A senior railway official confirmed the identification and reporting of contacts, and added that the infected employee had reported for duty a few days in the last week of April to prepare salary bills.
Asked about the infected staff eluding screening, B Guganesan, chief public relations officer of SR said, “We are checking the temperature of every employee who turns up at office. We have provided masks and sanitisers.
Even at stations, wash places and sanitisers are provided. We can only check the temperature while staff report to duty.” Asked about staff expressing apprehension about infection spread, he said, “As per Home Ministry’s directive, only 33 per cent employees are allowed to report for duty. It is less than that in some departments. We have left it to departments to decide on the staff required to work.
“Only those employees who can travel to work on their own are allowed. We have strictly avoided employees who take medicine for hypertension or heart diseases. We have made gate passes and allowed staff to take computers from office to work from home,” he added.
