The submission was made before a division bench comprising Justice Vineet Kothari and Justice Pushpa Sathyanarayana on Monday which was hearing a PIL seeking to direct the government to reopen religious places. The bench adjourned the hearing to May 18.
The petitioner, RK Jaleel, contended that as most of the shops and offices were allowed to function in non-containment zones, temples and religious places might also be allowed to reopen. Apart from the financial burden, the COVID-19 outbreak and lockdown had caused mental stress to many. Opening religious places would help such people get peace of mind, he said.
