The report alleged that Pushpam, a resident of Sivakasi, has petitioned the district collector six months ago regarding her OAP. The official assured help, but no action was taken since then.
The commission has said the report should be submitted within two weeks, adding that it would proceed to take such action as it deems fit and proper if that was not done.
The report said that Pushpam’s husband passed away 18 years ago and her children were married off. She has been receiving OAP for seven years, which abruptly for no apparent reason. “At present, I am living in a makeshift room under the staircase of my son’s house.
I gave them Rs 1,000 from my pension for food. Since my pension stopped coming, I am struggling,” she was quoted as saying.
