Covid-19 cases surge past 13,000 in Tamil Nadu

Three people succumbed to COVID-19 in Tamil Nadu on Wednesday while 743 tested positive, taking the infection tally to 13,191, the state health department said.

Chennai continued to see the highest number of infections at 557, taking the total to 8,228.

Three Covid-19 patients died, taking the toll to 87, it added.

The new infections included 83 people who had come to Tamil Nadu from Maharashtra.

With 987 discharges during the day, the number of Covid-19 cured people in the state reached 5,882.

According to the government, 11,894 samples have been tested taking to total to over 3.43 lakh till date. 

The number of infected children in the age group 0-12 went up to 803. The total number of active cases in Tamil Nadu stands at 7,219.
