Sacked from DMK, Duraisamy joins BJP

A day after he was sacked as DMK’s deputy general secretary VP Duraisamy on Friday joined the BJP. Duraisamy was inducted into the saffron party in the presence of state BJP president L Murugan and senior leader L Ganesan.

Duraisamy, who received the party primary member card from the state BJP president said that the decision to join the saffron party along with his supporters was a joyous moment for him and his family.

“BJP policies attracted me, and the country is safe under the BJP leadership,” Duraisamy claimed. However, Duraisamy spoke nothing negative about the DMK party high command during the customary press meet arranged by the BJP at its party headquarters in Chennai.

Dalit leader Duraisamy was upset with DMK president MK Stalin for not nominating him in the recently held Rajya Sabha polls.

Earlier in the day, BJP state unit released the resignation letter of Duraisamy addressed to the DMK chief Stalin. “I was relieved from the post of party deputy general secretary on Thursday. And I thank the DMK leadership for giving an opportunity to serve in the post for eight years. At the same time please relieve me at the earliest from the party as its primary member,” the letter addressed to Anna Arivalayam, DMK headquarters read.

“The BJP minority wing workers feel that now with the party having a Dalit state president and the inclusion of Duraisamy from Arunthathiyar community can help the saffron party to eat into the Dalit vote bank commanded by the Dravidian majors,” said a BJP functionary. He further said that Duraisamy is likely to be offered a prime post in Tamil Nadu BJP.
