The retaining walls of the sub canals should be strengthened and quality should be maintained in all works, the CMD stressed.

Inspecting the ongoing works in waterbodies in the district, Dr Satyagopal said, since the Mettur dam would be opened on the customary date of June 12, the ongoing kudimaramathu and desilt works should be completed before that day.

Advising the PWD officials that farmers should not come with the grievances especially from the tailend regions complaining that they did not receive water owing to the poor quality of the retaining walls and the sub-canals in the district, he told the officials to ensure quality of sub-canals prior to the release of water.

Dr Satyagopal made a spot study of the ongoing kudimaramathu works to the tune of Rs 25 lakh at Pachoor village in Mannachanallur. He also interacted with the farmers and members of the ayacutdars association, who undertake the kudimaramathu works. Officials said the kudimaramathu works would benefit at least 300 acres at Pachoor and Sarasavalli villages. Farmers in the tail-end regions depend on the water diverted from Peruvalai vaical that would branch at Sarasavalli sub-canal.
