Man held for sexually abusing 75-day-old daughter in Erode

A 50-year-old daily wager was held for sexually abusing his two and a half-month-old daughter in Erode district. The incident took place on May 22, when the mother was away for some work and the baby was left alone with the father. The man was later arrested.

“The daily wager had allegedly sexually assaulted the baby right in front of his mentally-challenged son. The mother, who returned saw the baby in pain, and learned what had happened. She took the child to a primary health centre at Alampalayam in Bhavani. The baby was then referred to Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical College and Hospital at Salem district for treatment.

Meanwhile, doctors at the Primary Health Centre informed the local police about the sexual assault. The accused was arrested by All Women’s Station’s police in Bhavani on Thursday. “The baby suffered injuries and has been under treatment at the government hospital in Salem. The condition of the baby is said to be stable and the child would be be discharged in a day or two,” said a police officer. Police said that the man could have sexually abused the baby on more than one occasion. On receiving a complaint from the mother, the AWPS police registered a case against the accused under various sections. The accused was remanded to judicial custody.
