LoP asks government not to be lethargic on locust swarm threat

The Leader of Opposition MK Stalin on Saturday urged Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami to take preventive measures to save the State from locust swarms and not be lethargic, as he was on coronavirus outbreak issue.

Pointing to the devastation locust swarms have caused in north western districts, Stalin said that the reported locus swarms in Krishnagiri and Nilgiris have triggered panic among people. Referring to the concerns expressed by experts on impact of locust swarms, Stalin said the State government should not be lethargic on this issue, as it was on coronavirus issue. It should start taking safety precautions immediately to prevent farmers and people from panicking over the issue.

Meanwhile, in a video message posted on Twitter, Stalin claimed that about 18 lakh people had contacted the “Ondrinaivom Vaa” seeking help in last 40 days. “If so many people approach a helpline operated by an Opposition party, imagine the kind of suffering the people would be going through. We have done what a government does,” Stalin said. Saying that his party has submitted seven lakh public grievance petitions through district Collectors, Stalin claimed to have distributed 71 lakh food items, 51 lakh masks/sanitisers and served 28 lakh food packets during the lockdown period.
