6 die in two mishaps in Erode, Salem

Six persons of two families, including a 12-year-old boy died in separate mishaps in Erode and Salem districts on Wednesday.

A couple and their 12-year-old son riding a two wheeler died after a speeding lorry crashed into their vehicle in Erode district. Police said Kandasamy, 40 from Namakkal, his wife Thangamani, 37 and their son Yadhurish, 12; studying Class 6 in a private school died in the mishap, while they were returning home after attending a house warming ceremony in Erode. Kandasamy was working in a pesticide manufacturing firm in Pallapatty in Salem district and had gone to the house warming ceremony of his colleague in Anaikalpalayam area in Erode.

A speeding lorry rammed their two-wheeler from the rear near Ring Road in Anaikalpalayam. In the impact, the couple and their son were thrown out from the two-wheeler and they succumbed to injuries on the spot.

The driver fled leaving the lorry in the accident spot. Erode Taluk police sent the bodies of the deceased family by ambulance to Erode Government Hospital for post mortem. Police have registered a case and a search is on for the absconding lorry driver. In another incident, P Siva Kumar, 48, his wife Varalakshmi, 40 and their relative Shanthi, 38 were bound to Keeripatti from Thammampatti for a relative’s marriage, when another car heading towards Tiruchy from Malliakarai collided head on around noon. The couple and their relative died on the spot while seven others in another car suffered injuries and have been rushed to a hospital. The Malliakarai police have registered a case and further investigations are on.
