Southern Railway proposes three more intra-state spl services

The Southern Railway (SR) has proposed operation of three more special services within Tamil Nadu. A request has been sent from the SR zone to the Railway Board for operating one pair from Coimbatore to Arakkonam and two pairs from Tiruchy to Chengalpattu.

The proposal has been sent by the zone following request from the Chief Secretary to the zonal officials. Going by the official communique sent by the zone to the board on June 1, it has been proposed to convert Karaikudi – Egmore Pallavan Express (train no 12606/12605) and Tiruchy-Egmore (train no16795/16796) as intercity special between Tiruchy and Chengalpattu.

Officials in the zone have also recommended utilising Chennai – Coimbatore Kovai Express (train no 12675/12676) as superfast intercity special between Arakkonam and Coimbatore. As per the schedule proposed to the board, one special train starting from Tiruchy at 6.30 am would run via Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, Mayiladuthurai, Tiruppadirippuliyur, Villupuram and Melmaruvathur before reaching Chengalpattu at 12.40 pm. The train (no 06796/06795) would cover a part of delta, while the other train (no 02606/02605) would start from Tiruchy at 7 am and reach Chengalpattu at 11.30 am via the usual Ariyalur, Villupuram and Melmaruvathur route.

The special train (02675/02676) from Coimbatore will run via the usual Tirupur, Erode, Salem, Jolarpet and Katpadi route. The superfast special will start from Coimbatore at 3.15 pm and reach Arakkonam at 9.45 pm, the proposal sent by the zone to the board said.
