Rs 2,564 cr agri loans to be disbursed in Delta: Minister

In order to triple the income of farmers and double the production in Delta districts, a fund of Rs 2,564 crore was allocated for crop loans through Cooperative Societies this year, said Cooperative Minister Sellur K Raju here on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters after a review meeting with the officials of cooperative societies from eight Delta districts, the Minister said, the department has a target of Rs 2,564 crore as crop loans and a fund or Rs 43.88 crore has been disbursed so far. Eligible farmers can avail the loan without any delay and the officials have been instructed accordingly, he said.

“As Delta farmers are gearing up for kuruvai cultivation with the release of Mettur dam on June 12, a stock of 29,889 MT fertilizers, including urea, DAP, MOP and Complex have been made available,” said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the short term variety paddy seeds for kuruvai cultivation has been stocked at the Thanajvur Cooperative Marketing Federation and the farmers can avail the facilities. Similarly, agricultural equipment like tractor, tiller, planter and seeders as well as the other machines are made available at as many as 85 agriculture service centres operated under Primary Agriculture Cooperative Credit Societies and the farmers are advised to avail them at low rent, said the Minister.
