“Labourers from Tamil Nadu, who were working in various parts of the country and world, are returning back to the State. The government will identify their potential and work experience and will take steps to employ them in the private sector,” said a State government statement here on Wednesday.

Due to COVID-19 pandemic, labourers from across the globe are returning to their natives and Tamil Nadu is no exemption. Just like the migrant labourers from other states who worked in Tamil Nadu are returning to their natives, labourers from Tamil Nadu working in other parts of the country are also returning back to their homes.

The biggest challenge the State government face is bridging the gap of unemployment of labourers who had returned home from outside Tamil Nadu even while coping with the scarcity of workforce as a majority of migrant labourers had returned back to their native states.

As the migrant labourers are unlikely to return to Tamil Nadu in near future, the State government is now planning to train the labourers to increase their employability and for the purpose, State government had developed a portal for them to register.

“Workers can register themselves in www.tnskill.tn.gov.in and for workers who require additional training, the State government will make arrangements so as to ensure that they get employment in private companies,” said the statement.
